France to ban sales of petrol and diesel vehicles by 2040 – and that means motorcycles too.

The man announcing this slightly ambiguous policy (apparently it doesn’t include hybrids) is Nicolas “Monsieur” Hulot. Who he? Minister for Ecological Transition in the new Macron Government, long-time environmental campaigner and founder of the not-at-all hubristic and since wisely renamed ‘Nicolas Hulot Foundation’.

Wait – is that the same Monsieur Hulot whose eponymous foundation was reported in French satirical magazine Le Canard enchaîné to have allegedly received €460,000  in donations from giant electricity generator EDF before 2012 and €100,000 since? The same EDF that’s been pushing its electric car recharging infrastructure through its subsidiary service company Sodetrel? And M. Hulot wants to ban fossil fueled vehicles potentially in favour of electrically powered ones?

Fancy that!
